BAYOG Radio: New Releases — February 2021
Hello my luvs~ I know it’s Monday, and I would normally leave y’all a Music Monday post. However, I just haven’t really been up to writing due to alot of different things. I’ve been feeling overwhelmed with alot of emotions and thoughts due to all the recent events in the news. As an Asian-American and a woman, it’s really shaken me more than I initially thought. There were also some personal stuff. So I might take a couple days to just clear my thoughts and emotions. So in the meantime, I’d like to leave you with the February music releases for BAYOG Radio: New Releases.
As you may remember, I started a new series of rotating playlists for BAYOG called BAYOG Radio. One of the playlists is the BAYOG Radio: New Releases playlist. Overwhelmed and don’t know how to keep up with all the new music releases? No worries I gotchu and did all the work for you. BAYOG Radio: New Releases is a rotational playlist in which I drop newly released Asian music of various genres; Mostly from the Korean and Japanese music scene. The playlists are rotated in the middle of every month. So it’s time that the January releases are swapped out of the playlist. No worries though. So now we get to the updates for what was included on our February 2021 list. We had even more releases in February than January. So yeah, the list is long. As per usual, I tried to include new releases from all sorts of artists and genres; Regardless of whether it was my personal preference or not. My point with this playlist to maybe help you find new music and/or artists that you like. Of course, we all have different tastes. So I just scour around and drop all the things for y’all~ Again, it’ll be listed alphabetically and in the following format: Artist|Song|Album|Release Date.
**Also a reminder that these tracks will be rotated out of the playlist in the middle of April~
From now on I’ll be putting the list on a separate document you can view. February had alooot of releases. We literally have 480+ tracks for February. It was 11-12 pages long on a Word document. So yeah, we’ll do this through Google sheets now, y’all.

The Spotify x Kakao M mess threw us off. Still, we were anticipating a couple releases from artists like Chung Ha, Sunmi, and SHINee. I personally found alot of new artists and songs I liked; Especially from the underground and lesser known artists~ So it was a good month of new music~

I meant to do this switch and update in the beginning of March. However, that whole chaotic Spotify x Kakao M mess really threw me off. I almost thought I’d have to give up on all BAYOG playlists. If y’all didn’t know, a huge chunk of Korean music was removed from Spotify around the end of February and beginning of March. Not all Korean music was affected, but alot of it was. So people compared it to Thanos’ finger snap from Infinity War. Anyway, the major removal of music was due to the end of the licensing agreement between Spotify and Kakao M. See, Kakao M is a major company that holds the distribution rights for a huge chunk of Korean music. They weren’t able to come to an agreement when the licensing agreement expired. Plus, there’s the issue of Spotify being direct competition of Kakao M’s Melon, a major Korean music streaming platform. It was a huge shock for Korean music fans. Everyone, particularly the international fans, were outraged. Since a good majority of international fans relied on Spotify for the Korean music finds/streams.
I was devastated because most of my playlists got obliterated pretty badly. I was actually struggling to think of what to do for BAYOG Playlists. I was especially sad about losing music from my treasure finds of smaller, lesser known artists and songs. I listen to music alot and can recognize most of my library. Even if the info came out blank, I could at least recognize the artist and album art. That’s not the case for my small, random treasure finds though. At one point some songs were being directly added back by the artists themselves. However, it messed up stream analytics. Also, you’d have to manually re-add songs to playlists. Have y’all seen my playlists? I was pretty fucked… So I was had anxiety about it, and my friends who follow my playlists felt anxiety cuz they knew I had anxiety… Fortunately, discontent from both consumers and artists probably gave Spotify and Kakao M pressure to come to an agreement after all. Thus, my K-Jams and playlists are back~ It was stressful, but I’ll admit we got some good memes.
Anyway, that’s it~ I hope y’all enjoy the current tracks on the BAYOG Radio: New Releases playlist. I think next time I’ll continue putting the list of tracks on a separate document because these lists are getting hella long to be listed on a post. March had alot of releases and is probably longer than this… I might even just go ahead and make permanent playlists for each month if it’s gonna be this long… Hopefully you found some fun new songs and/or artists! It’s off topic to the post, but again, the world has been hella crazy. I’ve been shaken and overwhelmed as hate crimes and violence against AAPI is truly coming into focus. The growing and recent attacks have been increasingly more on my mind; Always has, but even more so. Combined with the highlight on violence against women in general, it’s got my mind and heart feeling heavy. Especially as an Asian-American woman. I’ve spent days with my mind stuck on incidents and traumas I or my friends have experienced. So I might not be consistent with blogging as I take some time to process these overwhelming thoughts and emotions. That being said, as an Asian-American woman with a small platform, I wanted to address the matters at hand. Hate, discrimination, and violence against Asians is not new. It’s just that it’s increased dramatically and has been more documented during this pandemic. I also want to point out that this issue is not exclusive to the US. Similar cases are found everywhere were there are diasporic Asian communities. In regards to the US, I know many are unaware of the US’ dark history against the AAPI community. I suggest taking a look into it, or talking to someone; I’m happy to discuss things if you’d like. Most importantly, try to get involved; Be it through donations to help the community and/or discussions. Don’t be bystanders. Stand up, protect and help each other if you see something. I mean this for all communities. While the current focus is on hate against AAPI right now, all hate, discrimination, and violence is an issue; No matter which community it’s against. The situations for each community aren’t exactly the same, but we have many similar issues that we’re fighting against. So as a community of human beings, let’s stick together and fight this common issue together. Take care. Please, please stay safe. Stop hate and ignorance, and have compassion and sympathy. Look out for each other. Learn and start a conversation. Love one another. Have wonderful day my luvs, and know that I love you all.

STOP ASIAN HATE CRIMES
As an Asian-American, racism and hate crimes against AAPI isn’t new. It’s always been around. Unfortunately, misinformation and the pandemic has caused an insane surge in racism and xenophobia. There has also been an insane rise in hate crimes. More recently, we’re seeing a surge of hate crimes against the Asian elderly. Particularly in the California and New York areas. Some cases even leading to injuries and even death. The sad thing is that many cases do not get alot of attention, or are just looked passed. It breaks my heart and is cause for concern since it affects our community. Since some of the BAYOG Crew (including myself) are Asian-Americans ourselves, I wanted to use our small platform to help in anyway. Hate, racism, and xenophobia is an ugly thing. We’re friends, in the same community, and against the same social injustices. So be kind and let’s fight these things together.
