ORESUKI Are You The Only One Who Loves Me? | Episode 4 & 5 Review

ORESUKI Are You The Only One Who Loves Me? | Episode 4 & 5 Review

Sorry for the wait on this post. I should’ve put out episode 4 last week but I had midterms and had a friend moving away so I wanted to make sure I hung out with him before he left. I’ve finally gotten through most of my anime backlog. The only thing I need to watch is Psycho-Pass 3. I hope to do a write up on the first few episodes. We shall see. Back to Oresuki!

Episode 4

I initially thought of the first three episodes as the end of an arc but then episode 4 went and changed all of that. Most of the episode was just allowing the characters to make up with Joro. I still don’t know how I feel about him making up with Sun-chan. I almost feel that he is going to be his greatest enemy throughout the show. The way he said that Joro won made me think it was more like Joro won this round. Also, he was kind of a scumbag.

It was nice to see how the real Joro interacted with everyone when he made up. Himawari was just happy to have her friend back. I almost wonder if she knew of Joro’s ways from back when they were younger. It’s honestly just nice to see everyone’s true selves. It almost makes up a new composition of the series and I’m super excited to see what crazy antics will come about in future episodes.

Episode 5

In the last episode, we were introduced to a new character, Asunaro. She is from the newspaper club and she is investigating Joro. She seems to have nailed Joro for what his future ambitions are but not what he has done now. At this moment he is just friends with everyone again and the last thing he wants to do is ruin what he just built back up. As much as it sucks for Joro to go through yet another encounter with the cursed bench, I was very happy for the return of Bench-kun.

IS THAT A KAIJI REFERENCE?!

The thing I find so funny about this episode and everything that is going on is I kind of can see Joro’s plan working out. I’m pretty sure Cosmo likes him now, Pansy definitely likes him and now Asunaro from the looks of the end of the episode. I wouldn’t be surprised if the next episode, we find out that Asunaro leaked the story on purpose to make it so the girls would stop talking to Joro, leaving him all to herself. I’M CALLING IT NOW! Also, they are really pushing the Joro and Sun ship on us.

I’m really enjoying this show so far. When I think it’s going to lose some of its charm and comes right back and smacks us with something new. One thing I noticed last week was the original creator had played a huge part in this adaption. Rakuda handled the script and series composition. I had some trouble finding more information on the author but I can’t imagine how excited they were working on this project and being able to bring their story to life.

Thanks for taking the time to read my weekly posts and see you guys next week for more!

  1. I loved how, as your last screen shot shows, it’s pretty clear that however he acts – inside he’s still a scumbag. It really would have broken my faith in this show if he’d made a heel-face turn. He’s not a guy you can like very much, but he is a character you can admire the author’s treatment of. If that makes sense.

I don’t expect all characters to be likable, but I do enjoy shows where they’re *consistent* or given a *strong* reason to change their behavior.

    1. I totally get what you mean. You have any shows you can think of, off the top of your head, that you like because the characters are consistent in the same way?

      1. Consistency is more common than not thankfully! None spring to mind so far as consistency or heel-face turn… The actual example that I was thinking of was Kirito (SAO) and how, after ep 3, he changed markedly because of the events of that ep. He changed, but only because of how strongly the events affected him.
