Music Monday| Treasure  — 다라리 (DARARI)

Hey BAYOG Fam~ I’ve returned from my trip!~ Sorry y’all. Was out of town to go on a trip with my sis and her boyfriend, and to go to that Epik High concert with my bestie and Loha hehe~ I was gonna do a post on that, but it’ll be later haha. Anyway, I’m doing a quick return to our Music Monday posts~ It’s spring so I’m going with sweet, warm, and fluffy spring vibes for our spring edition of Music Monday~ Today’s track is “다라리 (DARARI)” by Treasure~

I’ll be honest. I don’t know too much about Treasure…or most fourth-generation K-Pop groups. I’m from the first and second generation of K-Pop with some familiarity with third-generation groups. Honestly, all I know is Treasure is a fourth-generation group under YG Entertainment, with the members being chosen from YG’s YG Treasure Box, and I know Bang Ye Dam. But anyway, let’s get to the actual background info. Again, Treasure (트레저) is a fourth-generation boy group under YG Entertainment. The band was formed in 2019 with 12 members from YG’s reality-survival program YG Treasure Box in 2018. The members include Choi Hyun Suk, Jihoon, Yoshi, Junkyu, Mashiho, Yoon Jae Hyuk, Asahi, Bang Ye Dam, Doyoung, Haruto, Park Jeong Woo, and So Jung Hwan. They made their official debut in 2020 with the single album, The First Step: Chapter One. Treasure has also performed the 13th ending theme song for the anime Black Clover. Their fans are known as Treasure Makers (aka Teume/트메 for short). I was familiar with Bang Ye Dam. I remember him being this tiny little kid who competed on [K-Pop Star 2 back in 2012]. He was actually the runner-up. The winners were actually AKMU (formerly Akdong Musician), who are actually Treasure’s sunbaes and fellow YG labelmates. I think Ye Dam was the first with a solo release called “왜요 (WAYO)”. Love the track by the way. There’s also little performance version with some of his fellow Treasure members (Jihoon, Junkyu, Mashiho, and Park Jeong Woo) [here], as well as a duet version with Suhyun of AKMU [here] (It’s freakin’ beautiful btw). I’m also just literally learning that Jung Hwan was a part of K-Tigers??! If y’all didn’t know, they’re a really well-known taekwondo demo team that’s also known for [combining taekwondo routines with K-Pop choreo covers]. Total side note: I also just literally learned they have a group that came out with an album and [music video]?? Anyway, I think Treasure’s debut mv was [“Boy”]? Although, I think the first one that I saw and heard and was like, “Oh~ I kinda dig this~” was [“My Treasure”]. Actually, it kind of surprised me. Because I think it came up randomly, and I didn’t realize it was Treasure. So I’m from back when YG was more known for their Hip-Hop and then EDM type of sound. “My Treasure” sounded more like an SM Entertainment type of track than a YG Entertainment Track, but I liked it haha. It was upbeat and cute sounding. I don’t listen to Treasure often, but I do dig some of their tracks. Some of the tracks I like also include: [“사랑해 (I LOVE YOU)”], [“직진 (JIKJIN)”], [“Beautiful”], and [“나랑 있자 (BE WITH ME)”].

Anyway, today’s song I wanted to talk about was “다라리 (DARARI)”. It’s a track from The Second Step: Chapter One, which is Treasure’s first EP. The EP was released back on February 15, 2022. So yeah, it’s a fairly recent release. The main single for this EP was actually “직진 (JIKJIN)”. That’s also a banger. It’s a more upbeat, hard-hitting dance track. It’s not exactly super upbeat throughout the song, but it does have these beats and percussion that hits a nice punch throughout the chorus(?). It’s not normally my type of track, but I did find it stuck in my head. Although, I do personally prefer “다라리 (DARARI)” more. I actually only just recently really listened to it cuz of TikTok vids lol. Although I do remember digging it when I did a first listen of the EP when it was released. “다라리 (DARARI)” is a seemingly more mild and sweet track. It has these sweet and fluffy vibes. I love how it has this chill, sweet, and airy vibes with the vocals right before the chorus. Cuz that chorus hits and you get this bass and percussion that kicks in and slightly changes the vibe that makes you want to groove along to it. I also just love the vocals~ “U” is also a good track that I remember liking. It’s got a bit of a funk and groove to it. Lastly, there’s “It’s Okay”, which is a soft R&B kind of ballad. Apparently the physical copy of the album also contains 2 other tracks. Honestly, it’s a good EP. However, “다라리 (DARARI)” forever lives in my head right now lol. I just love the vibe and melody. I’m pretty sure “Da-ra-ri” doesn’t mean anything. I think it’s just basically a sing-songy note like singing “La la la~”. The song itself is like a sweet love song. To give an idea, they’re calling this person their muse and to listen carefully to the music and melody. It’s just about liking someone, the warmth and feelings they have, wondering if they feel the same, and wanting them to fall in love with you too. Yes, it sweet~ I believe the members wrote the lyrics themselves, so maybe it’s a song for Teume?
