Hello my BAYOG luvlies~ It’s Monday! So I’m back with another quick Music Monday post~ Sorry, making it quick cuz my balance is out of whack right now y’all… Anyway, we’re continuing our spring themed Music Monday posts! I still had a hard time deciding what track to share today. In the end I decided going with “Bom (나만, 봄)” by BOL4~ It’s a bright, sweet, and cute sounding track~

볼빨간사춘기/Bolbbalgan4 is also known as Blushing Youth or Blushing Puberty. It’s often shortned and simply referred to as just BOL4. It was originally a duo consisting of [Superstar K6 contestants] Ahn Ji Young and Woo Ji Yoon. The group was formed by Shofar Music in 2016. They debuted in 2016 with “싸운날 (Flight Day)” from their Red Ickle mini-album. They signed with King Records and debuted in Japan in June 2019 with the release of the Japanese edition of their Red Planet album. It was announced in April 2020 that Woo Ji Yoon left BOL4. Woo Ji Yoon started a solo career under the name [Odd Child], and Ahn Ji Young continued promoting as BOL4. I’m not like a huge stan, so I’m not all that familiar with BOL4, but I do enjoy their tracks. Honestly, BOL4 has alot of cute and sweet tracks that I think are perfect for spring, or just while chilling in a cafe/coffee shop~ [“Galaxy (우주를 줄게)”], [“Some(썸 탈꺼야)”], and [“Chocolate (초콜릿)”] are probably some of my favorites.

“Bom (나만, 봄)” is a track from BOL4’s 2019 EP Puberty Book I Bom (사춘기집 I 꽃기운). “Bom” is the Korean word for “Spring”. The Korean title “나만, 봄” literally translates to “Only Me, Spring”. It’s a bright and sweet track befitting the spring season. Especially with BOL4’s sweet, melodic, light, and airy vocals. It’s basically a love song. Cuz ya’know, alot of people think of love when it comes to spring. Y’all know that phrase, “Your spring has come.” From what I understand it’s that you’re in love, you’re feeling spring. But you don’t want all these other people to come after the same person. So you wish you could be the only one to experience this spring, because you want to be the only person by this person’s side.

The music video is kinda cute. Ji Young is basically like a cupid who falls for this guy. She then tries to shoot arrows at him to get him to like her. Although, the first couple of times, she ends up hitting Ji Yoon. Eventually, Ji Young is successful, and she gets to enjoy some time with this guy. However, it’s only temporary as the arrows do fade after a while. She continuously shoots arrows at him, but eventually gets upset when she sees him walking with Ji Young. Dude eventually comes across an arrow that Ji Young had dropped and goes to find her~ Honestly, it’s a cute MV, but I don’t really feel anything about it. I do like the song itself though.

STOP ASIAN HATE

As an Asian-American, racism, xenophobia, and hate crimes against AAPI isn’t new. It’s always been around. Unfortunately, misinformation and the pandemic has caused an insane surge in racism and xenophobia. There has also been an insane rise in hate crimes. More recently, we’re seeing a surge of hate crimes against the Asian elderly. Particularly in the California and New York areas. Some cases even leading to injuries and even death. The sad thing is that many cases do not get alot of attention, or are just looked passed. It breaks my heart and is cause for concern since it affects our community. Since some of the BAYOG Crew (including myself) are Asian-Americans ourselves, I wanted to use our small platform to help in anyway. Hate, racism, and xenophobia is an ugly thing. We’re friends, in the same community, and against the same social injustices. So be kind and let’s fight these things together.
