Music Monday|Hwasa & Woogie — 가을속에서 (In The Fall)
Hello my lovely BAYOG Fam!~ Welcome back for another Music Monday post! I got another chill track perfect for the autumn/winter vibes~ I know the previous tracks have been a bit more on the emotional and heavier side. However, today’s track is just a very chill and sweet K-R&B/ballad track~ Today I’m recommending “가을속에서 (In The Fall)” by Hwasa!~

So if you didn’t know, Hwasa is a member of third-generation K-Pop girlgroup MAMAMOO~ The members include: Hwasa, Moonbyul, Solar, and Wheein. MAMAMOO made their debut in 2014 under RBW. They were criticized and underappreciated at first due to being considered a “non-visual group” due to not fitting the typical visual and body standards of female idol groups. Basically, people didn’t think the members were pretty… Which is total bullshit. However, they were recognized for being a very talented vocal group. Again, they debuted around the time I was starting to not be as active in following new K-Pop groups and whatnot. However, their track [음오아예 (Um Oh Ah Yeh)] caught my attention. I thought it was really catchy. I think it’s also probably one of the tracks that helped them garner more attention as well. Their breakthrough came in 2016 with [넌 is 뭔들 (You’re The Best)].
They’ve since been rocking it as one of the major girl crush K-Pop girl groups, and have been acknowledged for their [superb vocals], charisma, as well as their fun, quirky and down to earth personalities. They’re now one of the top idol groups. Hwasa is known have a very fierce looking image and sultry vocals. I just love her voice. I absolutely love her collab with Loco, [Don’t]. Y’all know Loco is one of my favorite K-rappers too. So this track was pure gold for me~ She also released [Maria], [her first solo EP], a few months ago~ I know BAYOG, especially Nick, enjoyed it~ As for personality, I love how Hwasa doesn’t give a fuck about what others think. She just unapologetically does her. It was a big buzz when she was spotted going braless. She faced alot of criticism at the time. However, she also gained alot of support in that women should be able to dress and be however they want. Hwasa has also done several notable collabs including being featured on Dua Lipa’s [Physical]. Most recently, she was in a special project group called [Refund Sisters (환불 원정대)]. The group consisted of Hwasa, Jessi, Lee Hyori, and Uhm Jung Hwa. It was produced by Yoo Jaesuk, Korea’s most famous MC (and the yellow suit guy from PSY’s Gangnam Style). Also, have you seen her [2019 MAMA performance collab] with JYP (Park Jin Young)? It went viral due to the reaction of Jackson of GOT7.

Track: 가을속에서 (In The Fall)
EP: Hwa:telier (化-室:atelier/화실 (化-室:atelier)
Genre: K-Pop, K-R&B, Ballad
Language: Korean
Release: 2019
Anyway, back to our main point! Today’s track is “가을속에서 (In The Fall)”. It was released on her Hwa:telier single in 2019. Hwa:telier features just two tracks: 가을속에서 (In The Fall), and the instrumental for 가을속에서 (In The Fall). It’s a solo track by Hwasa and produced by Woogie. If you didn’t know, Woogie is a Korean producer under Jay Park’s company, AOMG. His tracks are known to have his audio tag, “Woogie on and on”. Woogie produces really great tracks, so I was totally for this collab. First of all, this song is totally my kind of style. It’s a chill, soft, and sweet sounding R&B track. It has a somewhat dreamy feeling to it. It’s also a perfect track to listen to at night when you just want some chill vibes. I like that the track doesn’t have too many overwhelming elements. It’s mainly a chill guitar, a simple beat, some ambient sounds, and other small and simple elements. I like that it allows the focus to be on Hwasa’s vocals~

First off, I love how sweet and soulful Hwasa’s vocals are on this track. It gives me this dreamy kind of feeling, and it’s just so soothing to listen to. As for the lyrics, it’s a simple love song. To me, it’s like the future is uncertain, but Hwasa is singing about appreciating the little things in the present. There may be differences, and perhaps they’ll be on different paths one day. However, in the present, she knows that she loves this person.
What a relief
Translation by [Popgasa]
That your warm touch
Wasn’t just last night’s dream
The air is so nice
Like this street we’re walking on
And the stars and even the smell of wet grass
I’m thinking about the words you said
In the fall
Tell me we’ll be forever
I’m just dreaming
love ya love ya
In the fall
love ya love ya
I’m just dreaming
love ya love ya
Like the bright moon above the clouds
I hope we can embrace our differences
Even if we’re on different paths
I hope we can meet in the same place at the end
I’m thinking about the words you said
In the fall
Tell me we’ll be forever
I’m just dreaming
love ya love ya
In the fall
love ya love ya
I’m just dreaming
love ya love ya
Like the bright moon above the clouds
Even if we’re on different paths
We’ll end up in the same place
Like the bright moon above the clouds
Even if we have differences
Even if we’re on different paths

BLACK LIVES MATTER
AS A GROUP OF BIPOC, BAYOG strongly stands with Black Lives Matter. We are all too familiar with the racism that we, our friends, and family have faced on a daily basis. Every life is precious. However, as BIPOC, we also recognize that black people are a group of people that face extreme racism and at a higher risk for their safety. We’ve individually done several donations. Of course, donations to support the cause and support change isn’t the only thing needed. Support for the cause and change also requires conversation and understanding. Make sure to have those conversations. Please remember to be an active supporter, be it through donations, sharing information, and/or conversations and speaking up.

If you can, please consider donating. I’ve donated more than once as well. For one of my donations, I donated through the BTS ARMY x BLM project. I recommend that if you’re unsure of where to donate. This is because the donation will be split amongst several different non-profit organizations. Of course, you can also choose a specific organization(s) if you wish as well. You can find that [HERE].

Stay strong. Fight racism, brutality, injustice, and bullshit. Don’t lose sight of the goal. We’re witnessing and being a part of history. Be allies and make sure change happens. Once again, BLACK LIVES MATTER.

Thanks for this awesome song recommendation Minty. The lo-fi vibes and Hwasa’s dulcet vocals are just the kind of thing I need to handle the gross weather outside. I also became a fan of Mamamoo’s music after listening to Oh Um Ah Yeh. I think my favourite tracks from the group are: Paint Me and Hip is such a bop. My favourite Hwasa tracks are LMM and Intro: Nobody Else.
You’re very welcome Emiko~ I’m glad that you enjoyed it!~ Yeah, it’s been a nice and soothing song to listen to. So I’ve just had it playing on repeat lately hehe~ I honestly have too many, but HIP is definitely one of my fave upbeat ones!~ I really liked Travel from the new album too~ For the softer tracks: Morning and Better Than I Though~ I really loved LMM and Intro: Nobody Else from Hwasa’s solo EP too~ Those were def my faves~ ^^
