Music Monday|HA:TFELT — 라 루나 (La Luna)
Hey BAYOG Fam! I bring you a bonus Music Monday post! Like I said, most of my summer themed Music Monday posts have been more on the tropical house, deep house, and moombahton spectrum. So I wanted to do some slightly different songs today. We already did cute, fun, and bright with [Twice]. This post is going to be on HA:TFELT’s “라 루나 (La Luna)”. It’s a freshly released summer track y’all.
HA:TFELT — Yeeun of Wonder Girls

So before we get into the song, let’s get some background info on HA:TFELT. We got alot of info this time, y’all. You’re welcome to just skip down to the song if you’d like. HA:TFELT is Park Yeeun. She’s most famous as Ye Eun, or Yenny, of the Wonder Girls. Wonder Girls was a girl group formed under JYP Entertainment in 2007. They are one of the Queens of K-Pop. They were basically JYP’s OG girl group and the predecessors to Miss A and Twice. They were one of the major second generation idol girl groups along with Girls’ Generation and Kara. Girls’ Generation is known as the Nation’s Girl Group. However, Girls’ Generation and Wonder Girls were pretty neck in neck. Although, both groups had different styles of music. Despite the “rivalry”, they were all close friends. Wonder Girls went through some line up changes over the years. The original [debut] line up consisted of: Sunye (Sun), Yeeun (Yenny), Sunmi, Sohee, and Hyuna. Hyuna shortly left Wonder Girls due to health issues. She later re-debuted as a member of 4Minute and is now a [well-known] [soloist]. She was replaced by Yubin, who became the new rapper of the group. Like Yubin had a rushed debut in [Tell Me] after 3 days of being sent to replace Hyuna. “Tell Me” was their first major hit. It was a retro-80s themed track. Apparently they hated it at first. Funnily enough, this started Wonder Girls being known for retro themed tracks. Their first major tracks included: [Tell Me], [So Hot], and [Nobody]. “Nobody” was a big breakthrough. This was when YouTube was getting popular, and people all over the world were starting to get exposed to K-Pop. This included the Jonas Brothers and their dad. They ended up touring with the Jonas Brothers, and were focusing on their US debut and promotions. They came out with English versions of their tracks like [Tell Me] and [Nobody].

However, Sunmi ended up postponing her music career to focus on academics. She was replaced by Hyelim (Lim), a Korean JYP trainee who grew up in Hong Kong. She was fluent in Korean, English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. Her first release with Wonder Girls was [2 Different Tears]. After that, they released [Be My Baby]. They went on to have a freakin’ [TeenNick] movie (uh…I wasn’t a fan of it though…) and released an original English track [The DJ Is Mine]. They then released [Like This]. Their original English track [Love Me Like Money] had a brief appearance in their movie, but was later released with Akon. I remember hearing this playing on the kiosks at Walmart LOL. These two songs strayed away from the retro theme that Wonder Girls was known for.

In 2012, Sunye suddenly announced that she was in a relationship and was going to get married. The group went on a hiatus. Sunye gave birth to a baby. Sohee left JYP and Wonder Girls as she wanted to focus on acting and she changed agencies. If you didn’t know, she later went on to star in [Train to Busan]. Sunmi resumed her singing career as a soloist. Yeeun went on to make her [solo debut] under the name HA:TFELT (“Hot” and “Heartfelt”). After a 3 year hiatus, Wonder Girls made a comeback with [I Feel You ]. This time the line up included: Yeeun, Sunmi, Yubin, and Hyelim. They resumed their retro themed kind of concept and sound. However, there was a big change. They returned as a band, as in actually performing with instruments, rather than a dance group. They later released a reggae track called [Why So Lonely] in 2016. In 2017, it was announced that Wonder Girls would be disbanding since Yeeun and Sunmi decided to leave the company. They released their final single [Draw Me]. It also served to celebrate 10 years since Wonder Girls’ debut. It was co-written by Yeeun. She went on to sign with Amoeba Culture, a label established by Dynami Duo (Gaeko and Choiza) and Go Kyung Min. Yeeun became the label’s first female solo artist in 11 years. She released her first single MEiNE and had Gaeko featured on her track [I Wander]. She’s basically more R&B and jazz based now.

Single: La Luna
Release: 2020
Genre: K-Pop, Reggae
Language: Korean
Yeeun literally just dropped this track and MV on September 10th. So yeah, just a few days ago. It’s a track that has a Latin and reggae vibe to it. I know she had been doing more kind of R&B, jazz, and hip-hop type of tracks under Amoeba. So I honestly wasn’t expecting her to go back to a reggae-esque track. It’s different than “Why So Lonely” though. It’s got a nice beat to it, is catchy, and her vocals are great. I also love how she’s actually singing “Vamos a La Luna”. I don’t really have much to say other than it’s a really nice track. I actually really like it.

Y’all. I don’t much to say. Mostly cuz I’m like, “Wuht…? Wuhhht….??” I’m very confused, and slightly disturbed. LOL I have no idea wasn’t going on. But I suppose it might make more sense after translations of the song drop. All we know is Yeeun hopped in a car with a stuffed bunny. Which turned into a man with a bunny head? And uh…yeah…whatever was goin’ on there. It’s strange, yet somehow still interesting. I’m definitely curious. I’ll probably keep watching it for a few days to try to make sense of it. LOL
Yeah, I know I talked more about Yeeun’s singing career than the actual track. But like I honestly don’t know what else to say about the track and MV, other than I do really like it. It’s a nice summer track, even if the MV got me hella confused. Like I said, I was a big second generation idol stan. Girls’ Generation and Wonder Girls were my absolutely favorite girl groups. Yeeun and Sunmi were probably my favorite members. Although, I also loved Yubin too. Another cool thing is that Wonder Girls were the first, and so far only, K-Pop concert I was able to go to. Well, other than the Epik High one lol. I actually went back in 2012 with our very own Nick ( @rokutsu ) and Marc ( @cmdrcluckcluck ). I’m kind of sad I never got to see Sunmi though. Still, it was a great show. I managed to maneuver my group to the front of the stage too haha~

Even though the band disbanded, I still support their solo careers. Like I love Sunmi’s solo tracks. Yeeun’s solo tracks are absolutely my kind of tracks too. Athough this kind of track is nothing new, it was still an enjoyable track. I like that Yeeun went for a style that’s different from the type of music she’s been releasing. It’s refreshing, and it’s a great summer track. What did you think? Do you like it, or are you like nah? Were you a Wonderful (Wonder Girls’ fandom)? If you were, what was your favorite track(s)? Anyway, stay safe, stay healthy, and have a wonderful day fam!~

BE SAFE. BE RESPONSIBLE.
WASH YOUR HANDS. WEAR A MASK.
SOCIAL DISTANCE. PLEASE.

Take care y’all. Please stay safe and take care of yourself. All jokes and fun aside…please, please, please, pleaaaase always wash your hands, practice social distancing, and wear a mask! I’m serious. Please take COVID-19 seriously. It truly is a matter of life and death. It’s something that needs to be taken seriously. It’s not just about the death of if you or someone you know gets it, but it also heavily affects those left behind. There are also aftereffects for those who are able to get through COVID-19. Be responsible. Be safe. Take care y’all. Have a wonderful day.
BLACK LIVES MATTER
AS A GROUP OF BIPOC, BAYOG strongly stands with Black Lives Matter. We’ve individually done several donations. Of course, donations to support the cause and support change isn’t the only thing needed. Support for the cause and change also requires conversation. Make sure to have those conversations. Aside from donating, I had several conversations with my family. I explained things to my parents, especially since some news stories were being reported inaccurately. I was afraid it’d be a bit difficult. However, as fellow BIPOC and human beings, it was a necessary conversation. My parents and grandma understand, and now stand on the same page regarding BLM as well. Please remember to be an active supporter, be it through donations, sharing information, and/or conversations and speaking up.

If you can, please consider donating. I’ve donated more than once as well. For one of my donations, I donated through the BTS ARMY x BLM project. I recommend that if you’re unsure of where to donate. This is because the donation will be split amongst several different non-profit organizations. Of course, you can also choose a specific organization(s) if you wish as well. You can find that [HERE].

Stay strong. Fight racism, brutality, injustice, and bullshit. Don’t lose sight of the goal. We’re witnessing and being a part of history. Be allies and make sure change happens. Once again, BLACK LIVES MATTER.
