AYYYY BAYOG FAM~ It’s been a while since I posted a proper BAYOG Playlist. I’ve been listening to alot of summer bops. However, sometimes I’m just really in the mood specifically for Tropical House, Deep House, or Moombahton. I feel like they’re a perfect fit for summer vibes. If y’all didn’t know, those are a couple EDM sub-genres. To be honest, I’m actually not super big into EDM? Like I honestly can listen to and enjoy anything (except for country music apparently). I do enjoy some EDM songs, after all it’s often heavily incorporated into today’s music trends…especially K-Pop. However, I’m not obsessed with EDM enough to be raving or going to EDM festivals. I just like to casually enjoy it.

EDM has a craaaaaaapton of sub-genres. Honestly, alot of them overlap too. I think the most well known sub-genres would be like: deep house, tropical house, future bass, dubstep, trance, techno, hardstyle, bounce, big room, etc. I tend to lean more towards deep house and tropical house though. I also enjoy future bass. I especially love kawaii future bass heheh. I also like moombahton since it has reggaeton and Latin influences and yo’ girl grew up in South Florida. I’m not really that into the “louder” and “noisier” EDM genres like hardstyle. However, I do like house like tropical house and deep house because it’s fun, usually more chill, and you can just groove to it. It can be kind of upbeat or chill. Either way, it’s perfect for me. I’ve been enjoying my [BAYOG Summer Vibes Playlist]. However, I was just in a particular mood for mostly tropical house, deep house, and moombahton. So I made a playlist to share with the BAYOG Bros, and I figured I might as well share it with y’all too. I think everyone tends to just think of K-Pop as generally being bubble gum pop idol music. However, K-Pop is a broad term of soooo many different kinds of genres, artists, and styles. I think this should be a good intro playlist for some of y’all~

Anyway, here’s my Spotify playlist with some K-Pop x EDM bops that have tropical house, deep house, and/or moombahton influences:

I’m honestly awful at explaining these genres. To be honest, I don’t even really know how to explain them because I’m really not that knowledgeable about EDM and it’s sub-genres. It’s more like I just know what they sound like LOL I could be wrong, but I’ll try my best for y’all though. I’ll also post a couple examples here for y’all too. Also, like I said…alot of these songs use more than one genre. So they tend to kind of overlap. Like there’s alot of tropical/deep house tracks and tropical house/moombahton tracks. You’ll find KARD, in particular, their whole sound is basically based around tropical house and moombahton. If I explain it wrong…my bad. I’m not as knowledgeable about EDM like Loha lol

DEEP HOUSE

This is a sub-genre of House music, which itself is a sub-genre of EDM? Apparently these tracks have a tempo between 100-130 BPM. I feel like deep house has a more ambient kind of sound or mix to it? I think it also tends to be more minimalistic compared to alot of other EDM sub-genres. It also has kind of an acoustic feeling to it at times? Most of these are tracks that got me grooving, but they’re like in a chill kind of way.

TROPICAL HOUSE

This is one of my favorite genres. I think I just love that it reminds me of the beach and summer? I feel like it’s generally kind of laid-back kind of EDM music. It usually gives me tropical vibes. Like I can imagine this in some summer montage of the beach or a beach drive or something. I think it kind of has this spaced out sound to it too? Sometimes it’ll have influences from dance hall and reggaeton. I think the key is the synths in the instrumentation?

MOOMBAHTON

Moombahton is basically a mix of house with reggaeton. You got some dance hall influence too. Overall, it’s got some sexy vibes, and the sound for this heavily draws from Latin-American music/sounds/vibes. Apparently the tempo is usually slower at around 105-115 BPM. I think the key characteristics are the thick and spread out bass line and some other things. Anyway, with K-Pop, we’re mostly looking at KARD for this genre lol Similar to tropical house, I think moombahton also has perfect summer vibes. I definitely can envision more summer montages for these kinds of songs~

So yeah, those were some of my fav K-Pop x EDM bops with Deep House, Tropical House, and Moombahton. I love the more laid back feel of Deep House and Tropical House. However, I also love how fun and uplifting tropical house can sound. I like listening to moombahton when I want to hear something that hits a bit harder. I love the bass lines, and overall it just sounds kind of nostalgic for me. I just love how tropical house and moombahton remind me of summer, the beach, and ocean. I feel like they got all the summer vibes covered. They also always get me feelin’ a type of way, and got me groovin’ in different ways too~ Anyway, I hope y’all enjoy the playlist. AS A GROUP OF BIPOC, BAYOG strongly stands with Black Lives Matter. We’ve individually done several donations. Of course, donations to support the cause and support change isn’t the only thing needed. Support for the cause and change also requires conversation. Make sure to have those conversations. Aside from donating, I had several conversations with my family. I explained things to my parents, especially since some news stories were being reported inaccurately. I was afraid it’d be a bit difficult. However, as fellow BIPOC and human beings, it was a necessary conversation.
