First Impressions|Overcooked 2 — My WTF Realization

Hello my luvs!~ It’s your favorite bobae, Minty~ I know…I keep putting off the Rewind posts… I’m not gonna lie…I just felt a little burnt out. I’ve been hella exhausted these days. Also, I know I’ve been doing alot of the drama and music posts. While I know alot of you do enjoy those posts, I also know that it’s not for everyone. So I’ll be taking this week off from the Rewind posts. I thought it was time I do something else for this week~ Instead, I thought it was due time for me to do a video game related post. I mean, cuz that’s one of the original goals of this blog…(before I took over with all the live action dramas and music posts…hehe…) Plus, I think it’s been forever since I did a video game post. Also, it’s gonna be a short and simple post today For Minty standards anyway.

The game we’re gonna talk about today is Overcooked 2! Y’all know me. I love cute and quirky games. Actually, I originally meant to do this post last year when I played it for the first time around Summer of 2018. I just never got around to writing the post then though. So yeah, this post is just gonna recount all of that~ So I basically first started this game because [Princess Sisters Squad] (Myself – Murdering Ax Princess, My sister – Boss Princess, and Danny – Sparkle Princess) was looking for a game to play together. We didn’t want anything too serious though. Thus, we searched dozens of games on Steam. Eventually, we decided on Overcooked 2.
Description (Overcooked 2 Fandom):
The Onion Kingdom is in peril again but this time, the Onion King himself is to blame. After reading aloud from the fabled Necronomnomicon, he has cooked up a whole new problem in the form of an Undead Bread army called The Unbread. Players will need to chop, fry, and bake their way through all-new crazy kitchens to defeat this new foe and save the kingdom once more.
Overcooked! 2 is a game for 1-4 players. Play solo or team up with friends either local on the couch or online and cook up a ton of brand new recipes. Overcome obstacles such as fire, collapsing floors, overbearing waiters, and floating work surfaces.
This game is the sequel to Overcooked, which we also bought…but never played. The game is developed by Ghost Town Games and published by Team 17. Overcooked 2 is available for PC/Mac, Playstation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. It’ basically a very cute cooking simulation game that can also wreck your friendships LOL. The art style of the game is super cute. The dialogue and story of the game is pretty funny…and full of puns. It’s so dorky. I love it~

It’s probably one of my favorite games. My sister and I love to play together. While we originally got the Steam version, we also got it for Nintendo Switch. It was a perfect game to play for when we went back to Thailand for my uncle’s wedding in March 2019. We landed in Bangkok, quickly showered, got ready, and did the wedding thing. Technically, this was their second wedding ceremony. They had an official traditional Thai ceremony a few months before. They had held off on the banquet ceremony so that we could fly over and attend. So instead of spending their wedding night alone, my aunt and uncle actually wanted to spend it hanging out with us. Thus, we huddled over this tiny screen (because we didn’t have a dock or HDMI at the hotel) and ended up playing Overcooked 2 for the night~ They loved it so much that they ended up getting the game as well. We ended up playing it together quite often when I went back to Thailand in August and September.

I absolutely love the art design and how they did the levels for the game. There’s a variety of levels, with varying difficulty. The basic principals are the same, but it’s hard in adjusting to the layout. Not only that, sometimes you have some obstacles to throw you off…sometimes quite literally. I also really like that it’s a simple story and it’s not an overly complicated game.

However, that isn’t to say it’s an easy game. This is definitely a game that requires good team work. It can definitely break friendships LOL. See, there are a variety of tasks that need to be done in the game while also dealing with the layout and obstacles. It can include: grabbing something, chopping something, cooking rice, frying, sauteing, plating, mixing something, serving, washing plates, etc. There are levels where you actually deal with moving or changing components in the map. It could be a counter moving, or even a moving hot air balloon or raft.

The key to completing everything quickly and efficiently is splitting up tasks. However, it only really works if you’re all on the same wave length. Which is good for me and my sis. Because we’re always on the same wave length. Also, it just seemed to feel very natural for me. Our uncle and his wife are gamers too, so we worked together well. My aunt (uncle’s sister) on the other hand…she doesn’t play games very often. We ran into issues and she’d get hella mad LOL I’ll admit we all got worked up at each other because of it. It was all good though, because the 3 of us managed to do everything fairly well. It can get incredibly hectic when you’re playing together, but it’s still alot of fun. So this game is definitely Minty approved.

I do have to say that I had a huge realization the day after I played Overcooked 2 for the first time. If y’all didn’t know, I’m a restaurant brat. My family has owned/run several restaurants over the years. So I basically grew up in the restaurant business. Like most Asian families, I was also forced into helping run the business since I was a kid. Due to family circumstances, I’m still here helping run the business. Officially, I’m the manager. However, I’m mostly serving, but I also do a bit of everything.

So the day after I played Overcooked 2, we got HELLAAAA busy during lunch. More so than usual. While I did serve, I also mostly had to help out in the kitchen. I’d serve food, bus tables, help cook, grab whatever they needed while cooking, and I also did the dishes. Like it was incredibly hectic. My head was literally spinning. I started washing the 5 bus pans of dirty dishes since we were running out of plates, cups, and silverware. I was finally able to not have to run around frantically. Even if it was for a bit. So I could finally catch my breath. I’m washing the dishes and thinking, “Damn this is so crazy…but at the same time feels oddly familiar…? Like I just went through this— Oh! This reminds me of when we played Overcooked 2!! Wait…” That’s when I realized Overcooked 2 is literally what I do IRL. It went from LOL to low-key sad LOL That’s it. That’s my funny story.

Anyways, hope you all have a wonderful day fam! I admit, I may take a mini-break from blogging to recover from burn out and exhaustion. I’ll try to return soon though! Take care luvs!~
