Shinra is a Hero | Fire Force

Shinra is a Hero | Fire Force

One thing that has become more and more apparent as time has passed during Fire Force is Shinra truly is a hero. He acts without hesitation to help those in need. He is never swayed by anyone on the other side of good to do evil. He oozes heroism with a villainous smile. As much as everyone has told him he has only hit the first few steps on his journey, I can’t help but see him as the hero he is striving to be from day one.

In the first episode, Shinra may have sounded like he was blowing smoke. He yelled to everyone that he wanted to be a hero but froze in the flames as they encounter the first infernal as a team. This moment only happened to give us a background story of what happened to his family. This helped propel him forward to launch as a hero when his mom gave him a proper send-off as a child.

By definition, he is fitting of the title “hero” and almost fits it better than most protagonist in the first few episodes of their respective anime. As I mentioned before, the only time that he has ANY hesitation was in the first episode and it’s hard to even take any points from him for freezing since he acted extremely fast to save Sister Iris at the beginning of the episode. His ability to act quickly, fight for what is right and save those in distress gives him this title much earlier than anticipated in my opinion.

The only character that I feel rivals him from another anime would be Tanjiro from Demon Slayer. He meets all the same requirements that Shinra has but I wonder if he would easily be swayed by Muzan if he provided some way to save Nezuko. We obviously would never know unless the opportunity presented itself but Tanjiro loves Nezuko enough to do anything for her so I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch.

One thing Tanjiro does have on Shinra is his empathy for the demons. I know that prayer is always made before/after they lay to rest the infernals but there is something about how Tanjiro relates to the demons and brings them peace before they fade away. This is unheard of from any other slayer. While in Fire Force, it is almost expected to feel remorse for the infernals they put down.

This may come off as a random post but this has just been something on my mind after watching the recent episode of Fire Force. There was something about the way Tamaki looked up at Shinra, her hero, that hit me like a ton of bricks. Really looking forward to what comes next from our hero!

Thanks for taking the time to read this! I will likely have a post up soon for Crunchyroll Expo. Happy to get back to writing. I’ve had like 8 unfinished drafts up to this point so I’m just happy to finally publish something and just speak what’s on my mind.

Sadly, Tamaki seems to mostly exist for this purpose… Most of the characters outside of Squad 8 are like, 2D caricatures rather than actual characters.

    1. That’s a fair point. I would like to see the characters outside of squad 8 explored a bit more. It’s likely because of how fast-paced this story is even though it’s not a short 12 episode cour. Not sure
