How Heavy Are The Dumbbells You Lift? | Midseason Review

If you’ve read my first impressions of How Heavy Are The Dumbbells You Lift? or Danberu, you know that I had very high expectations for this series. Now that a few weeks have passed, I thought it would be a great time to flex my finger muscles on this keyboard and talk about my thoughts on the show thus far.

Before I jump into talking about the anime alone, I do want to say I do appreciate what it has done for the anime community. I can’t think of any series outside of sports anime that makes you want to go out and be active and this series is super great with that. Just looking at my twitter feed I can see how many fans are inspired to work towards their fitness goals because of this anime. Now let’s REALLY get into it.

The series is great for the information it provides whether we talk about the mid-workout instructions or the workout at the end of the episode. It’s just good stuff. We can argue that not all of it is accurate but that part is enough to get anyone started which seems to be the overall goal of the source material.

I feel that I’ve never been a huge fan of multistory format for an episode. With shows like this and We Never Learn, I just start to lose interest after a while because of it. I believe this is just my problem but I can’t help but think there are other people that aren’t interested in that format. To be fair this is likely due to the source material having short chapters with no true connection to each one.

For pure entertainment value, this anime kills me. I absolutely loved this scene:

There are a bunch of other references to JoJo, Fist of the North Star and many other popular anime. For the entertainment and information, Danberu is definitely worth checking out.

The only issue I now have with recommending it is, I initially thought this series would be for anyone but I do see where it being too lewd can be a problem. It’s definitely not as bad as MILF Isekai but it does have it’s moments where it could easily push someone away from enjoying its other great qualities. If you can overlook that stuff, then definitely give it a shot. I’d love to know if this show has helped you get started on your fitness journey! I love to hear this stuff and help if I can. Thanks for reading!

  1. It’s a very odd blend of edutainment, comedy, and kinda pointless fanservice… That being said, other than this week’s ep being kinda weak, I’ve been enjoying it.

Tell us what you think...
