Miru Tights…

Miru Tights…

Let’s talk about some girls who are infatuated with their tights. That is literally the premise of this anime short. I have failed to find any other point to it. It’s just, cute girls and their daily lives that revolve around tights. Initially, I wasn’t going to watch it but when the initial promotional art came out, everyone on r/Anime was saying things like ‘Anime of the year’ and ‘Anime of the season.’ Now I understand, they were trolling. Well, I thought, why not share my first impressions of this anime short and give you the gist of what it’s about so you can decide if it is worth dedicating the very little time that the show has.

Before I talk about what this show is actually about, I thought it would be the best to share one of the comments that someone left on the MyAnimeList page:

Yeah. I honestly did not expect the anime community to be trolling so hard. Well, mission accomplished S-TierShowReview, YOU GOT ME!

Miru Tights is an Anime Short animated by Yokohama Animation Lab. This short follows the lives of school girls, Ren Aikawa, Yua Nakabeni and Homi Moegi who find themselves in odd situations that relate to their tights. Each girl also has her own preference in tights. Ren likes 60 denier tights(opaque), Yua likes 30 denier tights(sheer) and Homi likes 110 denier tights(thick). Throughout the series, you get to see not only their daily struggles but their tights. That is it.

Honestly, the show is just kind of cringe. I initially watched it just to see what the hype was about. I stay away from spoilers as much as I could. I probably should’ve let this series be spoiled for me. The first episode alone is really just about wet tights. Yeah… What makes it hard for me to complain about it is, the characters have the potential to be cool. If this wasn’t a short that was focused on the audience paying attention to their other features, we could’ve had some quality girls.

One thing I did appreciate about this series was the way they brought something in the anime out to the real world. I know, kind of a weird statement but they had an episode where Yua was posting pictures on her Twitter account and it’s a real account! I’ve always been a fan of things like this. It’s minimal effort to make a twitter account and post but it’s just nice to see the studio/promotional team doing this kind of outreach. If you are also looking at who she’s following, you will find the other two classmates. So, that’s a plus.

The show is so short it almost feels like it’s just a commercial. Unfortunately, it never leaves a lasting impression. With every episode, I almost feel like saying ‘welp, let’s move on to the next show!’ It’s a shame since I really fell for anime shorts like Aho-Girl and Tsuredure Children. They were very funny and had many shareable moments that were so short I can get anyone to watch them.

As a meme series, Miru Tights is a fine series. If you do not come in with these expectations, you may find yourself disappointed or just feeling uncomfortable. These are just my thoughts and some stuff I gauged from what my friends have told me. If you are loving the show, let me know in the comments below, what I’m missing it. Thanks for reading!
