Anime Spring 2019 Season: What I’ll be watching

Hey guys! I know this may be a bit early to write a post like this BUT I’M HYPED! 2019 has already had such a great start but I truly believe it can only get better from here. I decided to take a quick look to see what grabbed my attention and highlight some of the series that I will definitely be watching and also see what you guys are looking forward to. Let’s jump right in!

NOTE: Only going to add the synopsis for the new series.

Boku-tachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai (We Never Learn)

Studio: Studio Silver | Arvo Animation

Synopsis from Official Site:

His late father always said that a useless man should strive to be useful, so to that end, third-year high school student Nariyuki Yuiga dedicated himself to becoming a high-achieving student in his school, despite his history of poor grades. In order to give his destitute family a better life, his ultimate goal is to obtain the special VIP nomination, a prestigious scholarship covering all future university tuition fees. Although Nariyuki could feasibly be a shoe-in for the nomination, he is constantly overshadowed by classmates Rizu Ogata and Fumino Furuhashi in mathematics and literature, respectively.

To his delight, Nariyuki receives the nomination, but there’s a catch: he has to tutor his two star classmates, who are each hopelessly mediocre at the other’s subject of expertise! To make matters worse, the subjects they are horrible at are the same subjects they want to pursue for their future. As the time to submit university applications draws nearer, Nariyuki must find an effective tutoring method for the girls before it’s too late.

We Never Learn has a very interesting premise, especially as a shonen series. Since Shonen Jump had made their subscription only $1.99 a month, I thought why not try and catch up on some manga. We Never Learn has been on my list for quite some time so decided to start it after catching up on The Promised Neverland. This series was not at all what I was expecting but for the better. I initially thought it was just going to be another Nisekoi but I do believe that it has worked its way out of Nisekoi’s shadow. It’s a very funny and super relatable series. I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone’s reactions when it starts up.

Going to be totally honest with you guys, I know absolutely nothing about this series. The reason why I’m so excited to watch it is because of the studio behind it and the hype that I’ve seen from its fans. I know many people that have been really into Demon Slayer and have written me 3000-word essays on why I need to read it. They even got me to purchase the physical copies of the manga but I just haven’t had the time to check it out.

As soon as I heard that ufotable would be adapting the series, I knew I was in for a treat so I will be there day one of the simulcast!

I’ve been looking forward to this series ever since it was announced because one of my favourite directors of anime is working together with one of my favorite studio. Like what else could I ask for? Shinichiro Watanabe, legendary anime director, teaming up with Studio Bones to bring us something I never expected, a music-based anime. I kind of expect something different from Watanabe anyways after Zankyou no Terror a few years back but this is something else and I couldn’t be more excited.

Bungo Stray Dogs Season 3

Studio: BONES

I sometimes question if I’m the only one that’s super into this series because it seems like no one really talks about it. At least I thought I was. Last year, I went to see the Bungo Stray Dogs movie at Anime Boston and BOY was I wrong. The theater was almost packed and everyone was reacting to it enthusiastically. One of the best things about the movie was it was canon and sets up for what will happen in this next season. So if you have been watching the show but haven’t watched the movie, I recommend checking it out so you don’t miss anything. It’s currently streaming on Crunchyroll with season 1 and 2.

So yeah, I’m super excited and cannot wait to see what happens next!

Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) Season 3 Part 2

Studio: Wit Studios

For so long, I stayed as far as I could from Attack on Titan. I wanted nothing to do with the series because of the crazy amount of hype that was behind it, even with the non-anime fan folks. Maybe that’s very hipster of me but I just didn’t want to give this damn show a shot. Finally, after I seen some clips of Levi fighting all those dudes with guns, I caught up just to learn that we had to wait for the second part. The mid credit scene at the end of part 1 was so mysterious and intense. I need more of this damn show now!

Well… I started reading but I need to see that shit animated dammit! This season is going to be insane!

One Punch Man Season 2

Studio: J.C Staff

Oh man. One Punch Man Season 2. I saved this one for last for many reasons. Like everyone else, I’m super excited to see the series start back up but I was pretty bummed when I learned that a new studio and director was going to develop season 2. I questioned it but just kind of said I will wait and see when we get some REAL visuals. We got a trailer that showed us nothing. Pretty much just a bunch of stills and some voice overs so I can’t really tell if it is going to live up to the hype that season 1 had. Then I learned about the production issues they are having and how far along they are in the process of even making the season. Season 1 was complete before it aired. J.C Staff is only on the first few episodes and it airs in April! That’s crazy but I truly want to be hopeful.

Conclusion

These are the anime I will definitely be checking out next season. I believe that some other series were recently announced as well that I’m interested in but I wanted to keep it to the series that we 100% know will be airing in this Spring Season. I’d also love to hear your thoughts about next season and what you will be watching. Let me know in the comments below! Happy Monday!
