Goblin Slayer Episode 7 Review (NSFW)

This episode starts off with Priestess recollecting the tail end of the last, with the party leaving the sewers and standing out in the rain. As they plan for what to do now that the first wave of goblins have been handled, Dwarf Shaman wants some wine, Lizardman Priest wants some cheese, and Goblin Slayer sets off to send a letter. Priestess continues to wonder about Goblin Slayer and begins to “what-if” to a few months ago when she had first met him, as Shield Maiden enters the bath and asks if she can join Priestess.

Priestess begins to notice that Shield Maiden was covered in scars that she attributes to a mistake she made a decade ago. She also begins to talk about Goblin Slayer, finally acknowledging that he will eventually disappear, confirming Priestess’ fears and that she too knows what goblins are really like. Meanwhile back at the guild, High Elf Archer and Goblin Slayer talk about the letter he sent and the strange situation that there are no quests to handle giant rats, even though there is a massive sewer system. The other adventurers begin to mock him for that assessment, seemingly ignorant of the goblin menace underground. They then set off back to the sewers, this time with a new canary companion in hand.

Goblin Slayer Canary

He brought the canary to plan for poison gas due to the trained knowledge the goblins of this nest seem to possess. Additionally he tracks that they should be heading upstream to follow the source of their boats. Goblin Slayer plans to hunt down the leader and kill them, then move to slaughter the rest. As they delve deeper, they find themselves upon some sort of grave or shrine for adventurers of an era long past. As they storm in, they find another body strung up that turns out to be then bait to a trap and the tomb they are in begins to fill with poison gas.

Goblin Slayer ITS A TRAP

They begin to contemplate a method to survive the poison, and it turns out Goblin Slayer was more than prepared. Using cloth and charcoal, he creates gas masks, and provides concrete mix that is used to fill the holes. After this, they move to defend the tomb against the eventual attack. None too soon, they finish as the goblins begin to clamor against the wall, with a protection spell and dragontooth warrior summoned to bolster  their defenses. Turns out at the head of this force is a massive goblin champion, who is best described as an absolute unit of a goblinoid creature.

Goblin Slayer Absolute Unit

The battle appears to go rather well for the party include a fair amount of pretty cool CG use including a matrix style killing scene. The goblin champion manages to beat back  Goblin Slayer and the protection spell of the priestess breaks. At this point the goblins start doing goblin things and honestly, shit seems to be going rather poorly. The sound of Priestess screaming as she’s bitten into and the rest of his companions stirs Goblin Slayer awake and he hears the words of his master. This is where I know my fellow manga readers started cheering because he hit full on goblin slaying mode.

Coming to, he pops a few potions for stamina and healing then literally crawls his way out of the grave to full on choke this motherfucker with the hair they used as a trap. Apparently human hair doesn’t break easily or come undone hence why he manages to full on choke this bitch out. The words of his master ring loud and clear as he then proceeds to gouge out the champion’s eye and he full on inspires fear into the other goblins. Watching their leader hobble off wounded causes the rest of the to rout and run, absolutely terrified. Thankfully the party manages to stay strong enough for them all to regroup and head out and with serious injury, but nothing lethal. At least you think that until Goblin Slayer collapses after spiting out copious amounts of blood. the creepy choir style music and seeing the scene in the blinking eye of Canary (yes that’s his name) is both haunting and strange. This scene dragged on and could have instead had what I assume will be the intro to next episode. Even throwing the credits on would have been great for anyone who hadn’t read ahead and even for some of us who did. However that disjoint leaves me just kinda meh and while the action was top notch, the ending had me let down as this rates an 8 eye gouged goblin champions out of 10.

  1. The canary scene was definitely a little weird, but otherwise this was a very solid episode to watch. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it.

    1. Yea, I have no clue where they pulled that from and it just seemed to break it really badly in my opinion. Glad I wasn’t the only one thrown by that!

      1. I read on Reddit that the canary’s eye scene was supposed to be the end credits.

Onna’s screams, though… Her voice actor (Yui Ogura) kicked serious butt in this episode…

      2. That would make sense. Also, her VA was amazing this episode, I was almost disturbed listening to her because of how she pulled it off!
