UPDATE:OPM S2 premiere on 04/2019 | One Punch Man Season 2 Episode 1 This Weekend?!

UPDATE: One Punch Man Season 2 was just announced was a release date of April 2019. Much sooner than anyone expected. We may not have gotten the first episode but we got great news. Not only is this season coming out in less than a year but the main cast will return and the OP will be done by JAM Project once again!

Here is the teaser and a key visual for season 2:

Also, Yonkou Productions apologized for being wrong and removed his video.

I know! You’re probably just as surprised as I am but I believe this may be true ladies and gentlemen. One Punch Man Season 2 Episode 1 will debut on Sunday during an event in Japan. There is also word that it will also be released online as well! Yonkou Productions, the man behind this announcement has such a massive track record or breaking the story on events happening in the Anime and Manga industry. He recently posted a video on youtube channel explaining everything. Check that out below:

After almost three years, we finally get to see something from this highly anticipated sequel. As an Anime only fan, I have been itching for my One Punch Man fix but stayed strong all this time to see it animated. As some of you may know, a few months back they announced that Madhouse would not be working on the sequel but will be passed over to JC Staff. So Season 2 will not retain the staff of animators and the director of the first season. Within this video, we are provided with a bit of information as to what the animation process may be during this season. Yonkou explained that JC Staff is going to put the time into animating this series and decided they want to animate most of it before the series will air.

Apparently, this is also how Madhouse worked on season 1. They took their time and it showed. What we got was a very well polished season. The issue that comes with this news is the rumored release date of Winter 2020. That’s insane but I love how much respect JC Staff has for this series to do it right.

I think the only series that has a somewhat similar story as One Punch Man is FLCL. When FLCL Season 2 and 3 were announced, we were surprised to see FLCL Season 3 Episode 1 was being aired on Toonami even before Part 2 started on April Fools. Hopefully, this episode can hold us over a bit while we wait a little less than a year and a half for Season 2.

One thing I am curious about is how all this happened. I believe Madhouse just had a bunch of other series on their plate and they couldn’t do it but I wonder how they choose one series over another? A wild guess would probably be just the money they make if they were commissioned to do the other anime series over One Punch Man? I don’t know. It’s something worth taking more time to do the research. So maybe I can figure that out for you guys next time!

Overall, really excited that we MAY be able to see One Punch Man Season 2 Episode 1 on Sunday. This was so sudden but such a treat to see late last night. I wonder how ONE, the creator of One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100, feels about the success of both of these series. Mob Psycho 100 Season 2 will return in January 2019 but you will have to wait much longer for the rest of the One Punch Man Episodes.

Thank you for taking the time to read this! I would love to hear your thoughts about all this One Punch Man news! Leave a comment below!

  1. It seems really odd to release an episode that far away from the rest of the series. While I appreciate they want fans to see that something is coming, I honestly don’t know that getting a single episode and then having to wait that long is something I’d really appreciate if I was super into the show.

    1. That’s fair. It’s pretty much a tease but as a random surprise, I’m pretty happy with it. Especially since last season was three years ago. I feel like this is a good way to show the fans that JC Staff can animate this season and bring all the things you loved from the first season. We just have to wait and see

  2. I was really surprised at the date of 2020. I was pretty sure it was going to be coming out late this year or early next year. Hopefully the wait is worth it!
