My Top 5 Anime of Spring 2018
Hey guys! Since this season is slowly coming to an end, I thought this would be a great time to look back at my top 5 anime of the Spring 2018 season. This was a pretty great season I must say and overall 2018 has been pretty solid. From time to time I tend to lose interest in the 20 different anime I watch a season but this time around, I found myself having a hard time trying to find one to drop! That’s super rare for me to be honest. Now let’s jump right in!
Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku
Synopsis:
Narumi Momose is a petite and cute young woman who loves idols, games, and everything anime or manga-related, especially in the boys’ love genre. In other words, she is a closet otaku and more specifically, a fujoshi. After a breakup due to these kind of interests, she quits her job and joins a new company. At her new workplace, the only colleagues who know about her secret are her childhood friend Hirotaka Nifuji, a blunt gaming otaku; Hanako Koyanagi, a cool and mature-looking beauty; and Tarou Kabakura, an attractive guy with a scary face who always gets into fights with Hanako.
While having drinks to catch up, Hirotaka advises Narumi to date someone who would understand her hobbies. But she is hesitant—otakus are typically perceived as gross, and the only ones who can understand them are otakus themselves. Or could a relationship between two otakus work?

My Thoughts:
I heard about this series long ago when the manga first started. It seemed like something I would be into but I decided to wait for it to be animated. Definitely worth the wait. The series is charming and relatable especially for us Otaku Gamers. I also found myself slightly jealous? After watching a few episodes I started to think how great it would be to be in a relationship with a fellow otaku. All my life, I’ve dated people with different interest and this series definitely reminded me of what I should be looking for in the future. ALSO that OP is amazing!
Steins;Gate 0
Synopsis:
The dark untold story of Steins;Gate that leads with the eccentric mad scientist Okabe, struggling to recover from a failed attempt at rescuing Kurisu. He decides to give up and abandons his lively scientist alter ego, in pursuit to forget the past. When all seems to be normal, he is seemingly pulled back into the past by meeting an acquaintance of Kurisu, who tells him that they have begun testing a device that stores the memory of a human and creates a simulation of them with their characteristics and personalities. Okabe begins testing and finds out that the simulation of Kurisu has brought back anguish and some new unexpected tragedies.
Zero explores events from the Beta Attractor Field’s future that contribute in making the end of the original story possible.

My Thoughts:
I’ve missed Steins;Gate so much! I watched the first season a year ago so the wait wasn’t that long for me but it was a wait nonetheless. This was a very different kind of sequel then I’m used to. The fact that this is a continuation from a different ending of the original is so Steins;Gate. I was a bit apprehensive at first but man did that change after watching the first episode. All I kept saying to myself was THE GANG IS BACK BOYSSS! Some a bit different than others but that’s beside the point…
Hinamatsuri
Synopsis:
One night, a strange object falls on the head of Nitta, a member of the yakuza. Inside the box is a strange young girl named Hina. She has tremendous supernatural powers, and Nitta finds himself reluctantly taking her in. Her powers can come in handy for his yakuza business, but he also runs the risk of her using them on him! Not to mention, if she doesn’t use her powers, she will eventually go berserk and destroy everything around her. Nitta and Hina’s strange life together is just beginning…

My Thoughts:
Hinamatsuri is probably the best comedy anime of 2018. FIGHT ME. It has some of the best comedic timing I’ve seen and I have heard from manga readers that this is a great adaption. I may go back to read it just because this series so great. Not only is it funny but also very wholesome and Heartwarming. I totally didn’t tear up watching this show or anything. YOU HAVE NO PROOF!
MEGALOBOX
Synopsis:
“To be quiet and do as you’re told, that’s the cowardly choice.” These are the words of Junk Dog, an underground fighter of Megalo Box, an evolution of boxing that utilizes mechanical limbs known as Gear to enhance the speed and power of its users. Despite the young man’s brimming potential as a boxer, the illegal nature of his participation forces him to make a living off of throwing matches as dictated by his boss Gansaku Nanbu. However, this all changes when the Megalo Box champion Yuuri enters his shabby ring under the guise of just another challenger. Taken out in a single round, Junk Dog is left with a challenge: “If you’re serious about fighting me again, then fight your way up to me and my ring.”
Filled with overwhelming excitement and backed by the criminal syndicate responsible for his thrown matches, Junk Dog enters Megalonia: a world-spanning tournament that will decide the strongest Megalo Boxer of them all. Having no name of his own, he takes on the moniker of “Joe” as he begins his climb from the very bottom of the ranked list of fighters. With only three months left to qualify, Joe must face off against opponents the likes of which he has never fought in order to meet the challenge of his rival.

My Thoughts:
Megalobox will be my new go to as a gateway anime suggestion. I believe anyone can get into this series. This is mostly because the animation style is very similiar to 90s anime that most people have watched but just feel off from. The soundtrack is fantastic. Every OST song fits extremely well but you can also find yourself listening to these tracks during your long commute or just doing things around the house. The OP isn’t great IMO but the ED is wonderful. If you haven’t gotten the chance to listen to the full version of it, DO IT.
My Hero Academia Season 3
No need for a synopsis here. WHY HAVEN’T YOU WATCHED IT YET?!
My Thoughts:
Between this season and last, I decided to read the manga because I was just too damn impatient. At first I was pretty upset at myself for doing this but when this season started, I didn’t mind at all. Even though I knew what was going to happen, the anime is just so damn good. Studio Bones takes the series to new heights and knows how to deliever EVERY TIME. Best part about all this is, we are only half way through the season!
Just want to say thank you for taking the time to read this post. I’ve been drafting up some cool post that may take me a bit more time and research but I really can’t wait to share them with you. We are also working on bringing new kinds of content to the Black and Yellow Otaku Gamer’s brand and we’ll be at Anime Expo! Let’s hang out! Stay tuned and thanks for all your support. I love you.

I’m with you 100% on Hinamatsuri and Megalo Box. Megalo Box is how I get through my rough thursdays at work lmao
Both of these series will probably get a 9/10 from me.
I pretty much have the same top five haha. Except I haven’t watched Steins Gate yet.
Steins;Gate is pretty good if you were a fan of the original. If you haven’t watched it, you should. Great time travel anime.
As votes come in for the poll, I’m looking over what I’ve watched and trying to decide what my picks actually are for Spring. It is hard because I’ve enjoyed a lot of stuff, but it isn’t very good. Then there are the ones that seems to be favourites amongst other bloggers that just didn’t grab me. Oh well, I’ve still got a couple of weeks to decide.
That’s fair. I’m personally enjoying a few shows but if you were to ask me to like critic them, that may be a different story lol. Tokyo Ghoul for example. I’m watching that. I like it BUT it’s not something I would rate highly.
Tokyo Ghoul Re has been an interesting watch if only because it makes no sense to people who haven’t read the manga (like me). I keep trying to make what I’m watching fit with events I’ve seen previously and I’m failing miserably so now I’m just watching to see how the season ends.
