Magical Girl GOre – Magical Girl Site (NSFW)

Ok, stupid title, but Loha gave me the idea from the podcast so blame him. Otherwise, it’s absolutely an accurate way to describe this show, as it’s really quite violent. Not necessarily gory I have to admit, but definitely a heavy show and I don’t mean it’s fat. Be warned ahead of time, this is some Madoka Magica level of “magical girl.” For those avoiding spoilers of that as well, this is something with topics some may find triggering or offensive such as death (duh), dismemberment, rape, some over-the-top bullying, abuse, and just overall bad times.

Thanks Marc.

Ok, now that that little filler image should have discouraged some more of my images I’ve got for the rest of the article, we can get started reviewing this show and all it’s insanity. I’d like to clarify from before, this is not a horrible gore and rape fest like Fist of The North Star nor Berserk. This is almost more horrifying in that the abuse our protagonist suffers is legitimate and realistic in that one could imagine this being the cause of a school shooting in today’s day and age. This show is rather dark off the bat with our protagonist Asagiri being beaten, shoved into toilets, covered in filth, cut by surprise razor blades/tacks and many more things as shown below:

Beyond that school torture, she is also utilized as a stress reliever/punching bag by her insane super perfect brother, who takes out the constant pressure form his father to be “perfect” on his dear beloved sister. At this point the only thing that keeps her alive is an adorable cat named Death Flag or something like that and is given a creepy invite from a website called “Magical Girl Site” and told she shall receive a magical girl stick to turn her into a magical girl which turns out to be an adorable gun. Surprise surprise, the cat Plot Point is murdered by one of her bullies and they call in some punk to rape the middle school girl but ok fine we’ll go with this. Fast forward a bit more and we have Aya pinned down and about to be a Law and Order: SVU victim when she fires her gun, and teleports bully girl #3 and rapist punk in front of a train where they become an after school PSA about why you shouldn’t play around on train tracks. While most would likely think this is a step too far, my legitimate reaction matched the teacher’s.

Magical Girl Site Legit My Reaction
I cannot describe the sarcasm and lack of fucks given in his voice.

Afterwards, Aya is freaking the hell out about having effectively killed two people (mind you in Florida and many other places in America, killing someone in self-defense is considered justified and NOT murder if done to prevent lethal bodily harm, kidnapping, or rape. Food for thought). Cornered by head bully Sarina Shizukume and bully #2, it seems Aya is about to learn how the joker got those scars, when time stops and she is rescued by absolute badass Tsuyuno Yatsumura and her time stopping magical stick cell phone. Also Aya’s brother makes the greatest face ever while he can’t beat his sister since Tsuyuno is visiting.

Exposition later, we find out that Tsuyuno had some interaction with another magical girl who brokered information, Rina Shioi. Rina and Tsuyuno worked together to gather intel about the sticks such as the fact that it drains their life as they use it and that there are other magical girls with different powers. At least there were until a Magical Hunter among them started murdering other Magical Girls and collecting their sticks complete with a legitimate murder book. She shows up as an outrageously busty pink haired girl and even though she is using multiple sticks, she is defeated by Aya and Tsuyuno through the power of love legitimate torture techniques. Before passing out due to organ failure from excessive stick use, Rina gives a warning of the oncoming Tempest, a supposed world ending cataclysmic event.

JIGGLE PHYSICS!

We start episode 3 with pet idols. Seriously. Pet. Idols. Aya and Tsuyuno aim to then find a magical girl who can help them obtain more information from the comatose Shioi. They find Nijimi “Nijimin” Anazawa of the pet idol group (seriously I hope that isn’t a thing) Puppy Play and explain that they too are magical girls. Nijimin has a blast finding out there are other magical girls as she only ever met one who was her best friend. Was, because she was killed by none other than our resident mahou shouko killer, Shioi, and is just a LITTLE unhinged because of this. Her stick is a pair of mind controlling panties (because of course they are) that compel anyone she commands to follow her orders, hiding the signs of her activation via makeup and contacts.

Isn’t she just the cutest little mind controlling murderer?

We have the fourth episode kick off with the Site Admin, Nana, give Sarina a new lease on life as a magical girl, specifically as the successor to the Magical Hunter. This episode focuses more on being a great bit of background story with us seeing that Sarina actually wasn’t a complete bitch the entire time to Aya, and that Tsuyuno has exceeded the use of her stick to the point of passing out in a pool of her own blood. We also have the VA of Bakugo from My Hero Academia as Aya’s brother doing his thing and calling everyone on the streets scum over and over again and Nijimin is informed by Sarina that her friend’s killer is lying in a bed comatose. We then end the episode finding out Tsuyuno is holding the murderer of her family in constant torture on life support in her home. Yeah, there’s no one here who isn’t insane.

That’s Not Normal.

We end the show there in a rather good hook, with me eagerly awaiting the next episode. The art and animation are all pretty good, with a great mix of just enough violence and blood to keep you watching, but not to the point of Elfen Lied where you feel a little sick after a few minutes. It does admittedly have its random moments of poor quality but these are more the exception than the rule with censoring kept to a minimum thankfully. Musically, the show is rather entertaining with a catchy tune and a unique Live-Action/Animation mix for the EDs with a Pet Idol ED for episode 3. The VAs are all pretty good with Bakugo like I mentioned, Nana being voiced by the VA for Freeza from DBZ and curiously, Kizuna AI voicing one of the characters yet to be displayed. Whether she reveals herself to be an evil and maniacal AI that has tricked humanity into a false sense of security has yet to be seen but I for one welcome our AI machine overlords will be watching this show with bated breath. Let me know what you think of this surprisingly  violent and heavy show below and check out our other articles for the season (or just in general) and I’ll keep you posted on this show for sure.
