Bitchigo: Why is the Community Like This?

Bitchigo: Why is the Community Like This?

Recently, there has been quite the stir in the anime community. If you aren’t on Reddit or active in the Anitwitter universe, something happened in the most recent episode of Darling in the Franxx with one of the main characters, Ichigo.  It was something that left the anime community divided by a fine line. Some people took it way too far. Fans of the series sent death threats to the Voice Actors, Director, and Animators. This is just not Okay. I will be the first to admit it, I was also on the side of disliking Ichigo after that episode of Darling in the FranXX BUT It was something that I would talk to friends about and have online rants. Not targeting the people telling the story.

Some may say that this is one of the biggest debates over best girls that we’ve seen in quite some time. Some would say bigger than Re: Zero. My issue with comparing Darling in the Franxx to Re: Zero is, what did Emilia do to even make it an argument? Nothing really. Rem was just so great that you were wrong to contest that Emilia was better. With Ichigo and Zero Two, there are great things that they each provide but like real people in the 3D world, they can easily do something that can completely change your outlook on them. Which Ichigo did.

I personally love the aesthetic of both of these characters and have grown fond of each of them. I lean more towards Zero Two after that episode but what she did in the episode was also supposed to lead you to look at her differently as well. It is all about how you perceived the episode. Everyone will have a different view of who is a better girl by the end of the episode but why are we threatening the people who are making it? If anything the community should be thanking the people behind the series for giving them two great characters to debate over.

One of the things I always loved about the anime community was how welcoming everyone was within it. I’ve met great people in the Anitwitter and Aniblogger space and it’s sad to see that some idiots can ruin our reputation by threatening the people who bring us this form of media that brought us together. Just a shame.

Sorry for the mini rant but this has been on my mind all week. I really hope that we can learn from this as a community and find other means to express our frustrations. That may be asking for too much but a man can dream. Also, thank you so much for taking the time to read this post and I would love to hear your thoughts on the matter. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

  1. I was honestly pretty shocked when I saw this was still a thing. I get maybe that your ship ‘sank’ or whatever, but threatening real people over something they created will never be cool. Glad there’s a lot of ‘us’ who still think this way.
