Blood Blockade Battlefront & Beyond INSANITY
Sometimes you find yourself more worried than excited when the second season of an anime you love is announced. A good example of this was the announcement of One Punch Man Season 2. There was a ton of concern stemming mainly from the transition of anime studios and directors but I along with everyone else just couldn’t wait for more Saitama oneshotting everything. Well, I must say, Blood Blockade Battlefront & Beyond was nothing but a delight and I’m extremely excited to talk about it so let’s jump right in!
A few weeks back I talked about BBB&Beyond and gave my thoughts on it as a three episode test. You can check that out here. If you haven’t watched it, DO IT! It’s a good binge watch now that both seasons are completely finished. Thankfully, it’s super accessible. You can watch it on Crunchyroll, Funimation or Hulu. Get it while it’s hot!
Like I mentioned at the beginning of this post, you can be a bit concerned about a season 2 when it is announced that it will feature a completely different director. THANK GOD, that was not the problem here! This season was different than the last but almost as if it was a passing of the torch. I feel as though the director actually cared about keeping the overall tone but also adapted it and made it their own. The opening is a bit wackier than the first OP but the ED has the same fun party vibe that the last season did.
One thing that I really appreciate is the character development of characters that I thought would never get the spotlight. Almost all of the side characters are interesting simply for their character designs and personalities but this season really made you forget who the main character was. Don’t get me wrong, Leonardo is still a very interesting main character especially seeing how much he has grown since he has first come to Salem’s lot and joined Libra. It’s just that… HOLY SHIT it’s hard not love everyone else more.
I think I’ve gushed way too much over Studio BONES so I won’t talk about them too much but I personally just love this studio. They always seem to bring great joy and awe with comedic delivery and killer action sequences. I don’t usually attribute all this to a studio but they just seem to always get it right. I feel like the only other studio that really does that for me on a consistent basis is Studio Trigger. An honorable mention would be Production I.G. but they have such a range of different anime and genres under their belts.
As much as the finale was a bit underwhelming versus the last season’s hour finale, It was a very fitting for an end. It really gave a soft conclusion with tons of possibilities for a future season. If I had to give it a rating out of 10, I’d give it an 8 because it was just pure entertainment. There are small flaws that you can find if you really dig deep but if you want a joy ride, hop aboard the Blood Blockade Battlefront express AND BEYOND!
Thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts on BBB&Beyond! Leave a like down below if you liked it and I’d love to hear your thoughts on it as well if you watched it. Loved it? Hated it? I want to know!
