No Funny Title, Just Legitimately NSFW – Hajimete No Gal First Impression

So that’s literally the first scene of this damn show, followed immediately afterwards by this shot, 8 seconds and 5 frames later.

Welcome to the world of Hajimete No Gal the show about a guy in High School who just wants to get laid and literally goes to begging a girl for it. This damn show, is just a guy being the stereotypical horndog teenage boy. That’s effectively the pretense of this show as of the first episode. But wait, there’s more! This is not some random bimbo he chooses to hit on/beg, but a clever and well put together gal. We start out with the above scene playing out with our nerdy virgin, Junichi Hashiba prostrate and begging for Yukana Yame to go out with him. We are then brought back a few hours to show how our sorry cherry boy got into this sorry predicament. Turns out he is not the lone nerdy to-be wizard one would assume, but a coven of equally perverted and lonely high school boys. Now you may think I’m being harsh, but trust me, these people are GARBAGE. They are perfect examples of human trash and leave me in the mindset that this show really is about Yukana being a considerably more complex character than one would first think due to her appearance and choice of miniskirt. Also a vast majority of the female characters are STACKED, but the show seems to indicate there’s more to these characters than their “plot” development.
Real quick, let’s review what exactly a “Gal” or Gyaru as they are called in Japan is a type of girl who is typically identified by bleach blonde hair, over the top nails and makeup that are very obvious should you see it. Akin to Valley Girls here in America its a subculture with many variations but are typically viewed as over the top and occasionally as a promiscuous object of lust (regardless of how the person actually acts/thinks). If you remember Gwen Stefani’s Hollaback Girl song, the Asian girls she’s got as backup dancers are kinda similar to Gyaru but again, it’s kind of hard to explain if you guys have never seen too much about Japanese culture.
So rounding back to the show, we have Junichi being basically depressed that even though it’s the “Season of Love” he and his buddies are the only ones single and alone. The show hints at the fact that he’s the protagonist of a harem style anime by introducing the little sister that’s his little sister in name only (and also super busty) and the super cute and intelligent student in his class that sits next to him. Taking aside the fact that his friends get really, REALLY, REALLY awkward about what they genuinely think is a busty elementary school girl. Afterwards his friends begin to genuinely read dirty magazines in the middle of class because they figure it ruins the mood for everyone when someone does this. Flawed/stupid logic of this aside, we find Junichi peer-pressured into reading said magazine then dropping it in front of the justifiably disgusted Yukana.
Now we find ourselves with Junichi and crew outside where they tell him that you know, Gal’s are all easy and that they’ll put out super quick. Being a gullible high school boy, Junichi puts genuine thought into this plan then logically realizes that’s stupid and that he shouldn’t do this. At this point his fate is decided for him and he is held as his friends submit a love letter to Yukana’s locker. Deciding why not, Junichi rolls with it and effectively finds himself prostrate in front of Yukana begging for her to date him, thinking this will get him laid. Of course Yukana isn’t some dumb slut and sees straight through this. Basically teasing and mocking him throughout his confession and giving him plenty of panty shots (which she used to tease him about) she finally asks him why he likes her and then after a humorous response, she agrees.

We find ourselves with an interesting ecchi show this season. The art style is rather good, per what one would expect for an ecchi show since they have to sell those Blu-Rays. The animation was actually surprisingly good to be perfectly honest, with good emotion on faces, even if it is mostly disgust. For voice acting, I was actually not bothered by the choices and found the conversations bearable to listen to despite the cringe. Musically however the show had a great OP and ED but the in show audio left a lot to be desired. Plot wise is where I see a good amount of polish for the show, with there clearly being more to Yukana than meets the eye and Junichi having potential should he just stay the hell away from his trash-human “friends.” So I can’t give this a recommendation until my three episode test review but by all means leave a like and comment to avoid this disgusted look.
