What I Will Be Watching During The Summer 2017 Anime Season

I’ve never written an article like this but while looking at next season’s lineup, I felt that I should share what I’ll be watching. I always love having this conversation with friends IRL or on Twitter about the new anime season. What’s everyone going to watch? Which series do you think will be super popular? So many questions! So much anime to watch! Where do I begin?!

Firstly, I will get the obvious ones out of the way. I’ll be watching the leftovers from last season: My Hero Academia, Re: CREATORS, and Rage of Bahamut: Virgin Soul. These three series have laid a lot of groundwork for what is to come in the second half, I can’t let their efforts go to waste. I am fully invested. I was watching Sakura Quest as well but Persona 5 has been getting in the way of me catching up. I will get there… Eventually.

Usually, I watch about 10-12 series of anime a season. I don’t finish them all thanks to the three episode test but I make a valiant effort nonetheless. After reading through all of this upcoming season’s anime catalog, I have chosen three new shows that I believe will fulfill my anime needs and one sequel. Let’s jump right in.

Koi to Uso (Love and Lies)

86101

I started to read this series a year ago one summer night. It was one of those rainy nights where I was in need of some slice of life when I happen to encounter this series. I must say I was pretty impressed with the concept and plot initially but didn’t fully invest. I later found out that the studio behind the anime adaption of Yamada and the Seven Witches,  LIDENFILMS, was behind this adaption as well. I’m very interested to see how they bring this story to life.

Synopsis:

I was Lies are forbidden and love is doubly forbidden. In the near future, when young people in Japan turn sixteen, they are assigned a marriage partner by the government. People don’t have to go through the trouble of looking for someone, and everyone accepts that the country will find a compatible partner to make them happy. Yukari Nejima is fifteen years old. He lives in a small corner of the country, and just can’t seem to get ahead in life. Both academically and athletically he’s below average. But within him, he hides a heart burning with passion! In this world in which love is forbidden, what will happen to him when he falls in love?

Ballroom e Youkoso (Welcome to the Ballroom)

86016

Okay, believe it or not. I am very series about this choice. Hey! Don’t give me that look! I know what you’re thinking, but hear me out. Yes, this anime is about Ballroom dancing. I’m not saying I’m a big ballroom dancing enthusiast because I’m talking about this series, but I’m just a firm believer in Production I.G. They are one of my top 3 animation studios for a reason: they do not disappoint. If they can get me pumped over an anime about Volleyball, I’m sure they will show me a whole new world to ballroom dancing.

Synopsis:

A professional dancer named Sengoku rescues Tatara, an introverted third-year middle school student who is being harassed by delinquents. Tatara ends up at Sengoku’s dance studio where he meets Shizuku Hanaoka, a schoolmate he comes to secretly idolize. From this defining moment when Tatara enters the world of dance. Sengoku is a free-spirited, dynamic international dancer who recognizes Tatara’s potential and begins to coach him. Through dance, Tatara meets another schoolmate, a dance prodigy named Kiyoharu. Through these new friendships, Tatara develops a passionate desire to improve as a dancer and be accepted by his peers and rivals, which nurtures his own native talent. And through interaction with Tatara, other dance members are encouraged to take steps to overcome their own challenges and issues.

Gamers!

85822

This choice may not be to everyone’s liking but to be honest, there wasn’t much of a choice for me here. I was on the fence with Hajimete no Gal but I have a funny feeling it may not pass my three episode test. Gamers! on the other hand seems to meet the criteria to pass my three episodes test and provide me with a good time. Also, rather watch this series than Free!’s doppelganger, Dive!!, a new anime about swimming. Might as well have another anime about figure skating.

Synopsis:

This is a story that revolves around certain students and one hobby. Amano Keita is our lonely protagonist who has a passion for gaming and is friends with Uehara Tasuku, who is secretly a fellow gamer and is someone who believes his life is perfect. We also have Karen Tendou, the club president of the video games club and Chiaki Hoshinomori, who constantly bickers with Keita. This is a story filled with a non-stop sequence of comedy scenes and misunderstandings. Our chaotic romantic comedy now begins!

New Game!!

85103l

Last but not least, the series I’m very excited for from the Summer 2016 anime season, New Game! season 2(New Game!!). Words cannot express the joy that came over me when I heard that this series was going to have a second season. With everything going wrong in the real world we really need to be able to come home, relax, and watch these girls work hard to release their newest game. For someone like me, who initially wanted to get into the video game development industry, it’s great to watch these girls do what I couldn’t and root for them from the sidelines.

No Synopsis needed. If you haven’t watched this series: GO!

There you have it! These are the shows I will definitely be watching during the Summer 2017 Anime season. What do you think about my list? Anything you think I should be watching? Let me know in the comments below! Also, leave a like as well to let me know if you like these kinds of articles.
