Masamune-kun’s Revenge: First Impressions
Imagine yourself as a chubby kid being bullied by the neighborhood kids. Shitty right? Imagine if you were rescued by a rich and beautiful girl just for her to bully you by calling you “Pigfoot.” Heart breaking, I know. Some would run home crying and never leave the house. Makabe Masamune does the very same. The difference between you and Makabe is that he made a decision to seek revenge against his tormentor. Makabe works to improve himself to become the most popular and handsome high school student. Doing this to win his tormentor’s heart just to break it.
As Makabe enters into the highschool he learns that his tormentor, Aki Adagaki, has not changed at all. She is known for turning down guys who confess to her in front of the entire school. That’s not all. She also gives them a nickname which they would be known as for the remainder of their time in high school. Makabe seeks aid from Aki’s maid, Yoshino Koiwai, to build his relationship with Aki. As he is working to break her heart, he learns that there is much more to Aki.
There are a few great things to point out about this anime. Firstly I must say how excited I was to see who was casted as Yoshino Koiwai. The voice of our favorite maid from one of the best anime of 2016, and also best girl of 2016, Inori Minase. Perfect casting choice. I have read a bit of the manga and before this series was announced to have an anime, she was my choice for this role. For once someone is listening to me!
Silver Link is the studio that developed this anime. This does not tell me much to be honest. I did some digging to find that they were the studio to work a variety of anime like Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge, Strike the Blood and many other honorable mentions. With the knowledge of its previous works and the completion of the three episode test, it is safe to say that this anime is very well done. The animation is great. No dips in quality. It is visually appealing to anyone.
The next points I want to make are good and bad. I will start with the good. I have no idea why I like the opening. It is very upbeat. I can’t say I have skipped it once yet. I would not say it is the best of this season *cough* *cough* ACCA *cough* *cough*, but I keep listening to it. The downside about the opening, like other openings for other anime, it shows WAY too much. You pretty much know exactly what is going to happen this season by watching the OP. Either way the show is worth the ride but I can see that discouraging many viewers.
After my three episode test I can safely say this anime will probably be in my top 3 this season. It may be a top 5. THERE IS TOO MUCH TO WATCH! It is a good problem to have. Man, we are kicking off 2017 right! I look forward to watching Makabe on his journey to sweet revenge but also hoping for light at the end of the tunnel. No, I do not want her to die. Leave a comment down below and let me know what you are watching this season!
